New Bridging Work Permit to Help Permanent Resident Applicants
The Bridging Open Work Permit will allow most economic class applicants that are waiting for their final decision on their permanent residence application to maintain their status and allow them to continue working in Canada. This bridging work permit is available effective immediately and will be valid for one year from the date of issuance. The open work permit will be available to those who have submitted applications under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Provincial Nominee Program, and whose work permits are about to expire.
This open work permit has solved the dilemma of those that have waited for their applications to be processed and have had their temporary work permits expire in the interim. This open work permit has already been available for other Canada immigration streams, and will only help to improve the consistency in transitioning into the labour force.
Minister Jason Kenney has stated that this new outlet will provide better opportunities to those that are to become permanent residents, allowing them to transition into Canada’s labour market.
