Canada’s Immigrant Work Force Key to Economic Success

Canada is an attractive option for immigrants looking for opportunity.  With a high number of incoming immigrants annually, there is speculation that these immigrants don’t have the skills or the aptitude for integration into the work force.  However, the reality is that these foreign nationals actually quite well-equipped to enter into our work force.  A large number of foreign students who study at our universities, stays in the country afterwards in order to enter the work force.  The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), found that employment opportunities for immigrants has actually increased in the last few years.

Foreign nationals are finding Canada’s labour force highly efficient and actually quite easy into which to integrate because they are being assigned to positions that maximize their own effectiveness.  It is also a very flexible labour force, allowing workers the easy mobility of moving cities or provinces for economic development.

Immigrants are not the only who benefit; they provide us with an important age block from which Canada’s economy benefits greatly.  This block of 20 to 44 year olds is the majority population that constitutes the work force, and they are the ones creating new families and households, which have been the reason for the resilience of Canada’s housing market.  Immigration, it seems, is a key aspect of Canada’s economic success.  Canada is currently ranked the seventh most efficient labour market, according to the latest Global Competitiveness Report.
