Bilingualism an Asset When it Comes to LMOs
A Labour Market Opinion (LMO) is required for many immigrants interested in applying for a work permit in Canada. However, in specific cases, an applicant’s qualifications can erase the necessity for an LMO. Saskatchewan’s trucking industry normally has to wait over a year to bring immigrants into Canada to drive their trucks, but what some companies have discovered is that the federal government encourages the hiring of immigrant who are able to speak French and will do so outside of Quebec.
Temporary foreign workers looking to go to Saskatchewan as drivers will not need to apply for an LMO if they are bilingual. This greatly reduces the time and stress it takes to bring a foreign worker over. While many employers weren’t aware of this rule, it could certainly make life easier now.
