Citizenship Updates
CIC advised citizenship applicants must have a CLB 4 benchmark – adequate knowledge of English or French – ages 18-54 – standard must be met upfront at time of filing –return files otherwise – less citizenship hearings for judges to determine language requirements. Current processing times – 18 months – just too long to find out do not meet requirements.
Exceptions to benchmark tests include PTSD, disability etc.
Government funded language training –accept a range of evidence – IELTS, TEF, CELP Intention to change the regulations
Australia and US have 6 months processing times – Canada hope to match
Bill C-37 not proceeding as of now.
