Expected Changes to the Federal Skilled Worker Program
On December 19, 2012, Minister Jason Kenny announced significant changes to the FSWP that are now set to take effect in May of this year. There are several key points that are expected to be announced in April that future FSW applicants should take into consideration;
- there will be a cap on the number of applicants accepted in the first year,
- there will be an updated list of priority occupations and
- organizations that will be designated to conduct educational assessments.
Applications have been paused since July 1, 2012, except those from specific PhD students and those who are supported by qualifying job offers.
The new FSWP will be opened up for applications on May 4, 2013.
