Groundhog Day Gives Hope of an Early Spring!
Calling all fans of spring –you may be in for a treat! Today’s Groundhog Day predictions will have many looking out for April showers and plenty of May flowers, and if all goes according to plan, that may happen a whole lot earlier than expected.
The age-old tradition of having groundhogs foretell the length of winter took place yet again today across Canada. Shubenacadie Sam started things off with a positive prediction –we’re set to have an early spring! Wiarton Willie on the other hand, who just celebrated his 60th anniversary of participating in Groundhog Day, put a damper on plans for warmer temperatures by forecasting six more weeks of winter.
This contradiction shouldn’t cause too much concern, as Punxsutawney Phil from south of the border in Pennsylvania was on the same page as Sam –spring will arrive sooner than later! Looks like we’re in for tons of blooms and sunny days as we leave snow and chilly temperatures behind.
