New Citizenship Judge Announced
On March 8th, 2013, Minister Jason Kenney announced the appointment of Angelo Persichilli as citizenship judge for the Greater Toronto Area.
Since his arrival from Italy in 1975, Mr. Persichilli has led an extensive career in the media and was Director of Communications to the Prime Minister between September 2011 and April 2012.
The responsibilities of citizenship judges include making decisions on citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
Appointed by the Governor Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, qualified candidates for the position must go through a rigorous screening procedure that includes a written exam, reference check and oral interview. Candidates require certain skills to be appointed including, judgment/analytical thinking, decision-making, effective communication, cross-cultural sensitivity, leadership and self-control.
