Outstanding numbers for Chinese Citizens
On April 22, 2014 Chris Alexander, Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister, and Costas Menegakis, Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister announced that in 2013 Canada issued more than 270,000 visitor visas , over 29,000 study permits and granted permanent residency to more than 34,000 Chinese citizens.
These numbers show the great relationship between Canada and China where Minister Alexander more recently concluded a successful trip. While in China he discussed the many opportunities Canada has to offer for Chinese visitors, skilled workers, business people, and students.
Canada and China signed an Approved Destination Status (ADS) in 2010, which allows Chinese travel agents to promote and arrange tour groups to Canadian destinations. Since 2006 there has been an increase of Chinese visitors to Canada by 120 percent, and 225 percent increase of Chinese students which makes China one of the top source countries for international students.
Chris Alexander, Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister had this to say.
“Our government is proud to reaffirm that Canada continues to be a welcoming place for Chinese visitors as well as students, and our doors remain open to those looking to make Canada their home. In 2013, China was once again a top source of county for permanent residency in Canada, which is an important indication for the strong people- to -people ties linking our two countries.”
