Sponsoring a Parent? It may take 3 to 5 years!

Q: I would like to sponsor my parents who live in Russia. Can you, please, tell me how to start this procedure?

A: Sponsoring your parents at present may be a long and frustrating experience.In the current legislation, parents are not considered to be a priority; therefore, the government allotted more resources to sponsoring children and spouses/common-law partners than parents.The waiting time at CPC Mississauga is currently approximately 26 months and then the file has to go overseas for up to another 2-3 years.

The procedure encompasses two stages:

• stage one is for you to be approved as a sponsor and
• stage two is for your parents to be approved as being eligible to become permanent residents.
